+ die another day +
Whoa... one minute im bitchin about bad movies... next minute i feel dizzy.. thinking: "its only 12 am! i cant be THAT tired!" Walk around...see the fish tank making waves...what the...waves?? Hell! the house is shaking! its doing the friggin hula! Quite scary, but then again its too late to get out of the block if anythin happens now... makes u think about God an stuff.... spent the rest of the night watchin the news and chattin on msn... after a good life-threatenin-scare, all u really wanna do is talk to ur buddies... hahahaha...had watched "Tuesdays With Morrie" on Good Friday in church, really touching. Guess it really does help combat procrastination if u realise you can in fact die at any time, somethin i picked up from the movie.... well thank God this earthquake was waaay less destructive than dec 26th's... only difference is, it felt waaay closer to home... cheers one and all! love u guys! *raises wine glass*
+ O How the Mighty Have Fallen +
then again, maybe they just weren't all they were cracked up to be... pulled under by the strain of their own hype... so much potential and publicity, so little to show. The Scorpion King (2002) They had the stars, they had the sequel, then... they had the spin-off. The Rock ran around the ancient world stuck in a plot thinner than his loin-cloth. Fight-sequences bordered on the cartoonic. The Big Bad Guy had an extremely forgettable name and died in an aptly retarded manner. I overheard bengs in a bus complainin about the movie...yes, thats how bad it was. Alien versus Predator(2004) oops... wrong pic... hahahaha... U can kill humans by the bucketfull, yes.. but how can u kill a movie based on a multi-million dollar franchise? simple... give it to screenwriter Paul WS Anderson. What he did to Resident Evil 1 & 2 was forgiveable (almost) given the limited storyline. But this was murder, the ultimate crossover became B-comedy. Loopholes swarmed and made swiss cheese of the already fragile plot... Whoever Wins We Lose $8.50. King Arthur(2004) Romans, knights and Keira Knightley. How they screwed up this winning combination never ceases to amaze me. Too little Romans, too little knights and too simple acting. The "automatic city gates" didn't help either. They killed off all potential by thinking small. In this day and age of CGI, not having enough staff is no excuse. Making "King Arthur" a small-scale movie does it no justice! Also worth honourable mention... Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones(2002). Everything was right, except the story was punctuated by Anakin Skywalker acting like some chico-pek. And still geting the girl??!! Amidala: "stop looking at me like that." Skywalker: "why?" Amidala: "it makes me feel.. uncomfortable." Whadahell?? which guy in his right mind would reply "why?" ???? here's another... Skywalker: "i don't like sand, sand is coarse, not like you..."(he proceeds to stroke her arm) most girls I know would have broken his light-saber by then. Lucas really screwed up here... made a possibily fantastic movie into a "worth watch".

+ the story so far.... +
Caught Team America and Howl's Moving Castle a couple'o'weeks back... Team America was insanely stupid and Howl's Moving Castle was bloody brilliant. Both descriptions happen to be terms of praise... hahahaha... yeah, bring on Spongebob Squarepants and i'll fully rediscover my love for animation this year! However i do concede that in spite of the recent run great jap animation movies, anime trailers are still the worst i have ever laid eyes on. The Howl's Moving Castle trailer is actually painful to watch... All the intricate imagery and the superb storyline is totally lost on that 30 second piece of shit.... bah... u see a moving castle, then the old lady, then a guy blowing a blue papaya in blue flames, then the old lady, then a woman in black moving at high velocity, then the old lady...... "Absolut" crud man.... Hopped down to NUS open house on saturday with Benel from me camp... Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences were giving an intro tour... Benel called down one of his buddies to come along... and HE happened to be Gabriel from CJC class 2T09... was thinking "NUS iz sooo far west, lord i'm 500miles away from hooome".... then i bumped into Kossy (CJC 2T07 n AGBN fan club prez) at the Clementi bus terminal, so relieved, i'm no stranger in a strange land... then bumped into Guo Ann (St Patrick's 4E3 n CJC 2T06) and Oliver (Student Council.. dunno wat class) outside the Lecture theatre 9. hahahha.... So many familiar faces... small world indeed. The welcome lecture was bloody entertaining... the Vice-Dean is coool...i'll say she'd make a good sales person if the uni would ever fire her.... "NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is ranked 17th in the world, not by some local survey mind you, but by The Times of London. Where does NTU's new arts fac stand i wonder? Oh! 80th! And what is this THING called SMU?? They weren't even ranked!" hahhahaha! i think i can get used to this "we're-the-best-n-loving-it-syndrome" Still can't believe it... i'm finally here... that wonderful mystical illusive dreamplace that our parents kept bugging us to work towards.... i'm here.. after 12 years of sloggin and regurgitating.... as for all u doomsayers, leave the freshman his rose-tinted glasses a little while longer why don'tcha... cheers al!l (raises wine glass) |
