+ the disillusionment ot hip hop +
The golden age is over... i swear the new stuff that's taken over MTV is running out of ideas. Its apparent popularity has bothered me so.....arrr... the next generation is losing quality music!! AAHHH!! This year (and last year) has been dominated by hip hop, bad hip hop at that, and punk rock (bad punk rock too) and in some cases, just plain shitty lyrics. There was once a time R. Kelly sang "I Believe I Can Fly", now he's famous for "Ignition".........welcome to the land of innuendoes..... Thankfully, saving graces came a plenty from the likes of Counting Crows, Matchbox 20, Travis, maroon 5, michael buble, switchfoot.... but you'll know something's wrong since i've taken an interest in CHINESE bands... namely Mayday and FIR. Today i've made history by paying money for a for a Chinese CD... FIR. i saw a taiwanese copy going at $9.95 (yeah, all the songs are in there)... just found out the guy in shades, his name is the same as mine... so this must be my lucky day, but try telling that to my legs after running the 21km Army Half Marathon... crashed for like 5hrs at home, best nap i've had for ages. Oh well, back to dissin' hip hop. List of must-haves for the modern hip hop music video: 1. Rich black dudes from beverly hills acting like poor black dudes in the ghetto 2. Hordes of scantily clad black women (strictly speakin, i shldn't be complaining) 3. syncronised dancing (do anythin as a group, and it suddenly looks cool) 4. dancing in slow-mo (so no one will notice if u hired untrained dancers who can't dance to the beat) 5. a big black unshaven dude in the background saying "uh!" or "yeah!" or other uncomprehendable mutterings 6. flashy cars, jewellery and other assorted bling-bling (most likely fake money, for throwing in the air) 7. at least 1 song per album which concertrates on how good they are in bed 8. turn-table scratching 9. make-out scenes.... then more make out scenes 10. shattering glass/mirrors (do it in slow-mo and it looks "artistic" man!)

+ Good news, bad news, and plain dumbass news +
Good news: T.A.T.U never really were lesbians. One of them is a mother and the other is gettin married! hahahahahaha..... They used the whole openly raunchy lesbian image just for shock value and milked it for all it's worth... what a slap in the face for those real lesbians who used to look up to them as role models... hahahaha... naturally a few less lesbians out there is always good news... "We must become cool sial!" "How ?" "We must rebel! Rebellion is cool!... sial!" "How can we express rebellion?" "By becoming LESBIAN! We can rebel against like, society man!... sial!" "Why is your english becoming so bad?" "Because the Govt. says we must improve, i mean improvin our engrish! So i rebel against them toooo!...................................................................sial!" Bad news: The PAP held their 50th anniversary by partying in Zouk. Something is seriously wrong in this picture. Its like a sign of things to come with the "new and improved" PM Lee -=Reloaded=-. PM Lee: "The PAP is a serious party, but we're not a square party. We have some serious people, but we know how to enjoy ourselves too. " Someone's in an image crisis here. Its kinda like the PAP is scared of becoming less cool than the people who rebel.... hahahhahhaha.... Of course they're free to use Zouk as they so please... they're all over 18... i think... hahhaha.... but if they really wanted to get in on the act, then shouldn't they also be boozing, passin out, groping, bartop dancing and bringing home druken female interns? hmm... Maybe next year.... hahahaha... Suddenly, rebelling against the govt. is starting to make sense again... hahaha Dumbass news: Taiwan has released posters urging people to buy less bubble tea so the govt. can secure a NT$610 billion arms deal with the US. (and i thought the campaigns here were weird). And ironcially, this has boosted the limping bubble tea industry due to the free advertising. (since now its cool to drink bubble tea again, becos the govt. told them not to.) Someone should take the que and tell people NOT to donate money to the needy and not to voluteer in such related services! hahhaha.... sheesh... all that money so Chinese in Taiwan can threaten to kill Chinese in China..... Cheers! the world is screwed up, one constant in times of uncertainty. By the way, I'm not anti-govt, I'm anti-society. (if u know wad i mean) *winks, raises wine glass*

+ The Greater Truth +
Pontius Pilate once asked Jesus, "What is truth?", not expecting an answer. Thus he didn't get one. I've been searching for the answers... seen many truths, but no answers. What's truth to me might not be truth to you. So now i look at truth in terms of levels. Cos sometimes both sides are true, but one side is more true. Getting confused? It's true that once i die, i can't bring a single strand of my earthly possesions. So why work so hard? True. But, living the life of a brain dead bum will be recorded as a wasted life. Thats like spitting on your literal "Birthday present". More true. You'll still have the same mind in the afterlife at least. I can ramble on about how working for selfish gain is meaningless Vs. Necessity of success, but i'll stray off topic. Either way, you can't fight truth. You can avoid it, ignore it, but you can't fight it. So you gotta get a greater truth if you ain't pleased with this one. The thing is, truth hurts sometimes... just gotta deal with it. People don't like to be corrected, it punctures their little cocoon. But, it takes bitter truth to mature... something i gotta live with. Cos i wanna mature, i wanna be perfect. Impossible, true. But its our duty to strive towards it, right? More true. Since i'm not imposing perfection on others, i should be okay with trying to perfect myself. The problem is, i'm not okay. And if i were okay, i'll get complacent right? Sheeesh....... I need a new strand of greater truth... i can't just live on fighting my flaws and weaknesses, its friggin annoying. Need a time-out. Is complacence really so horrible, or is it a natural rest- mechanism? haiz..... answers? anyone? cheers anyway... *raises wine glass, ponders on*

+ Just what the doctor ordered +
This just in, Harold and Kumar is THE funniest movie I have watched all year. Seriously, it even beat Alien VS Predator. Hahahaha.... finally a comedy with no lull in the humor, it just kept dishing out loads of shit... Some buggers say its a racist flick... but hey, if it gets past the almighty anal retentive singapore film censors, then who are you to say it should be banned? Best part is, its so NOT like "Dude, where's my car?" , a movie which i am still staunchly prejudiced against. But that didn't stop me from checking out "Harold and Kumar" (expecting the worst), and i never regretted it since. Now before my friends recoil in horror at my choice of movies to catch, i also highly recommend "The Terminal". So Tom Hanks is getting a litle fat, but hey, he still acts flawlessly. Put him and Steven Spielberg together is a sure-win formula begging for awards. The story is highly romantisied and the music is cool. I really can't understand why the newspaper ratings are so poor. The critics definately got this one wrong, must be the same bunch who didn't like "Hero". Surprisingly, both movies i've watched set me thinking (stop laughing, its true). They turned out to be excellent pick-u-up-when-you're-down kinda movies. Just what the doctor ordered.

+ Ian's Eleven +
Most guys who watch soccer long enough will some day dream up their own ultimate team... an unstoppable force... the team to end all teams...... actually the premise is quite self-defeating, if they won all the time would anyone still wanna watch them? So powerful they'd destroy themselves... hahaha All the same, here's my dream team Formation: 4-4-2 Manager: Jose Mourinho striker: Andriy Shevchenko (Ukraine) striker: Thierry Henry (France) mid centre: Steven Gerrad (England) mid centre: Zinedine Zidane (France-retired, but still a friggin monster) mid right: Hasan Salihamidzic (Bosnia) mid left: Pavel Nedved (Czech Republic) def centre: Lucio (Brazil) def centre: Walter Samuel (Argentina) def right: Carles Puyol (Spain) def left: Wayne Bridge (England) goalkeeper: Oliver Kahn (Germany) cheers! salute the beautiful game! *raises wine glass*

+ All's quiet... just quiet +
Pity i'd have to blog in a sombre mood today... my grandpa passed away the night before... while i was on guard duty. He went quietly i'm told... no one in my house went hysterical... but can't help seeing the house being more quiet than usual even though he never lived here... now i'm contributing to the silence. Guess i'm pretty blessed to have known all my grandparents, now i'm left with 3. Among my grandparents he was least closest, but the most jovial, with a magnetic personality... i saw the end drawing near when he could barely manage a smile. A fun-loving heck care attitude got him into heaps of shit ages ago, before i was born... but what does it matter now... i could never see him as a "bad" person... so i hope too see him again in that big room upstairs. Its like people i know started dropping since i've entered the army. I've not even been in this crud-land 2 years and my grandpa makes number 5 to leave the centre stage. Some young, some old, some peaceful, some violent. If i ever hated the New Paper for a time, it was because they sensationalised the deaths of my friends. I never did finish reading that article last year. My grandpa's wake was so ritualised i wondered why we Chinese buy all that weird shit. Been thinking too much, better not implode. Oh well, no cheers today, not in a cheery mood so i'll sign off with a verse or two from "The Observatory" Ask i know i know there's nothing i can do everybody shows a side thats never true when there's nothing in there nothing's ever really fair i know i know the old is nothing now everybody talks about the things they never do when there's nothing in there nothing's ever really fair... for you Ask...what u know Ask...what u don't know Ask...for you'll learn, then you'll know i know i know that time is never fair How much more abuse will the body bear when there's nothing there nothing's ever really fair when there's nothing in there oh if only you'd care... but u don't when there's nothing in there oh if only you'd ask.... Ask...what u know Ask...what u don't know Ask...for you'll learn, then you'll know (when there's nothing there) |
