+ Life in The Big Uni +
Seeing as its already my 4th week in the big frathouse... it would seem appropriate to blog abt the life here. As most (sane) guys would agree with me, it beats NS life by a longshot. Once u understand the (insane) module bidding system and the ground layout (the labyrinth of the Minotaur). Life (of an arts student) becomes ass-easy. Of course, the mid-term tests are closing in but i only chose to visualise to the mid-term break... hahahahah Marcus has clearly gone insane in the membrane... joining five hostel activities, 2 cultural activites and a brief skint in Dragon Boat (on last count). He's now frequently online but surprisingly quiet, cos he regularly falls asleep at the keyboard...hahahah... im almost lucky not to have gotten a place in hostel i guess. Every major society or cca is trying to be the coolest. So they ALL plan clubbin events. So there is on average, 1 party going down per week. Damn, if only these cca's were more creative, we wouldn't have to spend so much on booze. NUS is like a small city... complete with a sprinkling of cafes. But the sheer anomynity of the place is starting to bug me. Like going to a lecture and not knowing a single person in a room of 300. So methinks i'll be joining a cca soon, even though the points won't come to much use. Occasionally, you'll bump into people you haven't seen in ages, but considering there are 384 different modules in Arts Fac alone, be thankful if they happen to be sharing even a single one with u. Talk about choice overload. Workload so far is peanuts (no, i don't mean $600,000). I've skillfully crafted a 3-day workweek for myself. So on thursdays its like "Wheee! the week is over! next schoolday is on tuesday! Oh my word! That was a whole TWO days ago!" (voice of Jason)... Expenses however, are cut-throat, if i were to buy every textbook available, my account would wither away and die... photocopiers to the rescue. Bidding for sociology was mean this year... spent more than half of my total points on it... i blame idiots who dun understand demand-pull inflation. But eventually i got a lecture that fitted very nicely into my timetable... however, the location was LT 7A. I vaguely remembered seeing an LT 8 while touring the Arts Fac building... so i figured LT 7A cldn't be too far off. Lo and behold on lecture day... i cldn't find LT 7A on the damn map. Had to check an online map... damn soci lecture was in ENGINEERING BLOCK! WATDAFAARK!! Thats like 2 schools away! Why do ENGINEERS need SOCIOLOGY?! What looks like a straight line on the map is like scaling the Andes on the ground. So now every thursday i re-enact The Long March all the way to the far side of the world. Thank God the engineering canteen ain't bad, plus they got a McDonalds to boot. Perks: free Wi-Fi everywhere (except in the infamous LT 11), in fact this blog entry is being typed in the Central Library (lectures aren't for bloggin u bozo, lectures are for Football Manager...hahahahha! Tutorials are for re-charging laptop *sneaky grin*), food is cheap n good (but queues are killer), girls are everywhere, wait, did i say everywhere? nah, scratch that, they're mostly in Arts Fac....HAHAHAA!! So study hard, all u A-level and O-level students... relax once u come to NUS. All roads lead to uni... even the CJC road (hint hint). Or of course there's SMU which is so central that u'll never have to worry about travelling time ever again. Big changes a-comin, but thats what life's all about innit? Cheers! *raises coffee cup at a lecture somewhere*
