+ ONE HUNDRED +
i cant believe it, blog entry number 100. At this weird time of my life. I just finished "Storm in a Fishbowl" last month and moved into Kent Ridge Hall today. "Storm in a Fishbowl" was what i consider as the most meaningful accomplishment of my life. Seriously. Qualifying for a place in NUS FASS runs in a close 2nd... It was a musical which in my eyes, signalled the end of an era in my church. The Church of the Good Shepherd was a sleepy, inward-looking neighbourhood church, the church my family and later, i, grew up in. At the turn of the new millenium, i sensed all was not well. The youth raised voices of dissent that the stlye was too ancient. They worried the church could not keep up with the times. They were well-meaning people, but the old foggies suppressed our new ideas. In some respects we had good case, the church youth had strunk in number over the last few years, something had to be done. Lack of support drove out many a disillusioned member. My generation disappeared before my very eyes. Sometimes i wanted to leave, but strangely, God inspired me to stay in the very place i had labelled as being "hopeless". Suddenly out of army, i was challenged to join the youth committee. Perhaps a chance to change things. So the few of us battled on, slowly building on what youth we had. A year passed. Then we embarked on the most ambitious project the church had ever seen, a musical set to entertain 800. Many baulked the massive scale of it, me included. We even roped in 13-14 year-olds, nagging doubts in my mind questioned if we would succeed where my own generation had failed. But despite the odds, we pulled thru. In the space of a few years, God had dragged our asses out of the wilderness and back on track. Way beyond what my peers had ever done. Downright miraculous. No better word to describe it. What next? Youth Service! Onwards! i took a well deserved holiday in Bintan with Melvin, Michelle n Phoebe. Back to school, joined the O-week com and had a blast. Suddenly on friday, Kent Ridge Hall calls me up and says they've got a room for me. Brilliant. One blast after another. One year of waiting list and i suddenly get a place. Thanks to Marcus la. I've settled in nicely to my room, and the hostelites have been great. Tis been a strange year of crazy ups n downs, and it ain't gonna be over any time soon. Cheers! Happy Blog Centennial! *raises wine glass*
